CUPE 3903 Unit 2 Teaching Development Fund Application 2026

*Applications for the Teaching Development Fund are reviewed once a year in February following the application deadline. The current application deadline is February 1, 2026, for grants to be awarded in fall/winter 2026/27.

Purpose of the Fund
The purpose of the CUPE 3903 Unit 2 Teaching Development Fund is to assist members to develop a new program of study, new courses and teaching materials and/or assist in the development of their teaching skills in accordance with Article 15.18 (Teaching Development Fund) of the CUPE 3903 Unit 2 Collective Agreement.

The Teaching Development Fund has two categories:
Category 1
Major Teaching Development Grant (maximum of two (2))
Each major consists of an amount equivalent to the current salary rate of one course directorship.
Successful Unit 2 applicant will also receive one Type 1 Applicable Prior Experience (APE) credit and will designate a position previously held to which they wish the APE to be attributed. Awardees shall abide by the cap on positions as set out in Article 12.05.1 during the academic year in which the grant is held.
To be eligible for a Major grant, members must be in the bargaining unit or have been in the bargaining unit within the ten (10) months preceding the application deadline. As well, they must have held at least one Type 1 or equivalent position, in each of the two twelve-month periods ending August 31 preceding the application date.

Category 2
Other Teaching Development Grants (maximum of five (5))
All other research grants shall be in varying amounts up to a maximum of $3,000 each.

Successful applicants of grants, in either category, will receive their grant in the form of payroll remuneration throughout the fall and winter term(s) during the academic year in which the grant is held/awarded, unless otherwise indicated. The remuneration is income and subject to payroll taxation.

Additional information and terms of the fund:

Eligible members shall submit applications, including detailed proposals of the program or project they intend to undertake, by the application deadline each year. Grants shall be awarded for the following fall/winter session on the basis of the academic merit of the proposal as assessed by the Selection Committee, which consists of two members of the bargaining unit selected by CUPE 3903, one full-time Faculty member, and the Associate Vice-President (Research) or designate.

The Teaching Development Fund grants are available to Unit 2 members only, with a minimum of 1/3 of the awards being made to applicants who self-identify as a member of one or more of the designated employment equity categories as indicated on the application.
